The History of Chon's Korean Karate and the Asia Tang Soo Do Federation
Grandmaster K.H. Chon is an 8th Dan (8th Degree Black Belt), kickboxing champion, and master of korean karate.
Grandmaster Chon began his studies over 50 years ago in South Korea. Studying martial arts through his youth and into adulthood, he became an instructor. Working with Grandmaster Song Ki Kim, he taught Tang Soo Do in Song-tan City and Osan Air Force Base in South Korea. After years of teaching and time studying with Great-grandmaster Hwang Kee, Grandmaster K.H. Chon came to the United States in 1991. He came to Belle Vernon, PA and opened Chon's Karate School.
In 1992, after moving to the United States and working alongside other Korean masters, he founded the Asia Tang Soo Do Federation. Initially the federation was spread across the States with schools and instructors in California, Nebraska, Idaho, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and North Carolina.
We have masters and instructors across the US, in Arizona, Pennsylvania and Maryland, and in Korea. Currently we have operating four schools operating in the headquarter's region. The first school founded for our federation still operates, today: Chon's Karate in Belle Vernon, PA. This past year Grandmaster Chon has undertaken new work to open new schools in another states.
In his absence he has appointed Master Christopher Manderino, who has studied with our grandmaster for twenty years, as the school's chief instructor. Chon's Karate still continues to operate with Chief Master-Instructor Christopher Manderino and other master-instructors and training-instructors working alongside him.
