The flag of the United States of America consists of 50 white stars on a blue field, representing the 50 states of the union. There are 13 alternate red and white stripes representing the 13 original colonies. The colors of the American flag symbolize the virtues of the entire nation. Blue is for vigilance, perseverance and justice. White represents purity and innocence. Red is used to symbolize hardiness (strength) and valor (courage). |
| The Korean flag symbolizes the thought, philosophy and mysticism of the eastern culture. The center of the flag consists of a circle equally divided and in perfect balance. The symbol is known as the Um Yang or Yin Tang, the upper part, Yang, representing the active, and the lower part, the Ying is passive and is the ancient symbol of the creation of the universe. The bars at each corner carry ideas of opposition and balance. Three bars, Kun, represent the sky (heaven) while six bars, Kon, represent the ground (earth). Four bars, Yi, represent fire and five bars, Kam, represent water. The white field represents the people of Korea, the white color taken from the ancient dress of the Korean people. |
